thumb_20071006-s08.jpgAfter going 2-0 down from a Dempster brace, things were looking bleak for Elgin.  But goals from Hugh Dickson, Zander Sutherland and Anthony Tansley capped a great comeback for Elgin City and gave them a win to leapfrog Stenny and Albion Rovers into 7th place.

This was the first game for the Warriors after the departure of manager Campbell Money and that usually means an instant turnaround in form for the team.  It looked to be that way when Stenny started off the better of the two teams.  McManus had the first shot on target but Ridgers saved it comfortably. In the 9th minute, City were then handed a great chance when Craig Campbell broke free from a Demo long ball but he snapped at it and it went well over.  Ten minutes later The Warriors' John Dempster saw his shot saved by Ridgers after McManus swung his leg at the ball and completely miss it.

City had their best chance of the match so far in the 29th minute when a Daisy Ross header hit the bar from a Hugh Dickson corner. But it was the home side who drew the first blood.  After a great save by Ridgers to deny McManus, the resultant corner was not cleared properly and the ball ended up at the feet of Dempster who was on his own and he picked his spot to put the ball into the back of the net.  It looked suspiciously offside but the goal stood.  Dempster then had another chance to make it 2-0 just before half-time but he failed to get a touch on the cross ball.

Things got worse for City at the start of the second half with the Warriors going two goals ahead.  A Hampshire run into the box was stopped when he was fouled by Dickson and John Dempster converted the penalty.  In previous games City would've caved in at this point but with their new found confidence, their heads didn't go down.  And the fightback began when Hugh Dickson made up for his penalty foul when he headed home a Zander Sutherland free-kick from close range in the 57th minute giving the keeper Johnstone no chance to save it.

Provider turned scorer when Zander Sutherland, who was having another stormer of a game, thumped the ball into the net from distance on the hour mark to put City level. The Black and Whites were clearly on the front foot and and like in the Albion Rovers game a few weeks back, sensed that they could win the game.  The City players were celebrating three minutes later when Craig Frizzell had the ball in the net but his effort was judged to be offside.

Daisy Ross had the same decision in the 69th minute before City's pressure paid off and they took the lead in the 78th minute when super sub Anthony Tansley scored with a wonder strike from 20 yards out.  The home side tried to get back into the game and in time added on Felvus had a shot cleared off the line by Hugh Dickson and it sealed all three points for City.
