Three goals in nine minutes in the second half were enough to give Elgin the three points at Borough Briggs tonight.
A sluggish first half, lit up only by glimpses of magic from Zander Sutherland under the gaze of his ICT boss Craig Brewster, gave home fans some concerns.
Only Craig Frizzel's shot inside thirty seconds which Shire keeper Gary O'Connor saved well, threatened a home breakthrough. Indeed Shire had the better openings in that half, but after the break City burst into life. O'Connor saved a Darren Shallicker effort then reacted well to block Paul Kaczan's follow-up with his legs.
Both City men were unlucky, but joy was to come their way in the next few minutes. First of all, 'Shally' flicked on a Sutherland free kick and after messing up his first effort, Kaczan turned to bullet a left footer into the corner of the net. In similar fashion, Shallicker swept home number two on the volley after good play by the impressive Frizzel.
And before Shire could recover, 'Frizz' charged through the middle, knocked the ball past the last defender and when the offside Shallicker stepped aside to give his team-mate a path to goal, Frizzel rounded the keeper and produced the third left foot finish of the night.
The visitors were unlucky not to grab a goal and reward their hardy travelling supporters, who barely stopped singing the whole night. But for Elgin it was a crucial win, and with eleven points from their last 5 games they are coming in to form at a good time.
