For anyone neutral in Victoria Park last night would've struggled to tell which team was in the higher division as City didn't let Ross County get away with an easy win. The scoreline in the end didn't tell the full story as the visitors hassled and harried the Black Isle side and held them for a large part of the game.
Elgin tonight unveiled their new goalkeeper Stevie Dunn who was signed from Rothes. Dunn was recruited as Joe Malin was unable to play in this game and Charlie Fox has recently left City.
It was the home side who had some early pressure and Derek Adams threatened Stevie Dunn's goal twice in the opening minutes. Dunn pulled off a superb save which must have settled him into the game. City threatened for the first time in the 13th minute, but ex-County player Kenny Gilbert shot wide but it was County who took the lead in the 23rd minute when Dowie launched himself above Elgin's defence to head home Derek Adams' corner. However City didn't lie down and after Dunn pulled off a great save from Barrowman in the 43rd minute, a minute later the cup tie was all-square when Martin Charlesworth finished off a Craig Campbell cross with aplomb. The ideal time to equalise, just before half-time.
Into the second period and Ross County came back with more determination and put the City goal under a lot more pressure. Stewart Petrie and Barrowman both went close before the latter won the tie for County. First, he bundled home a deep cross from Stuart Golabek and then he repeated the trick in the last minute of the game from Adams' assist. City had a late chance when sub Mark Smith fired wide after a 40-yard unchallenged run. In the middle of it all, City were reduced to 10 men when Allan Dempsie picked up a second yellow card after clashing with Adams.
