A thick mist at Links Park led to a 15-minute first half delay of the match, but a goalless draw made sure that Elgin's undefeated run continued. Top scorer Darren Shallicker returned to the team, having missed the win at Stenny due to RAF commitments.

But it was obvious from the very start of the match that play would not be able to continue uninterrupted, as both officials' and supporters' visibility of the action was virtually non-existant. Referee William Collum stopped play on 12 minutes to allow conditions to improve, and it proved to be a sensible decision as it cleared up within a short while.

Once it got underway again, Montrose created some good chances and their strikers Rodgers and Baird both tested Ally Ridgers in the Elgin goal. The fog returned for a spell in the second half, but it seemed to fade with the home challenge as Elgin came back into the match. Mark Smith went close with a drive which Peat got a hand to, while Craig Frizzel's strong run ended with a near post shot which was also gathered.

Even David Hind was keen to get in on the shooting with two long range tries which weren't far off. Captain Shuggy Dickson met a corner with a header on 75 minutes which looked to have opened the scoring, but a defender popped up on the line to clear. But Ridgers' goal was peppered in the later stages by a home team desperate for the three points, and it needed some solid defending to keep the score at 0-0 and give Robbie Williamson an important and well-earned point.
