Baird 67, 75 |
Montrose sub John Baird struck twice to down Elgin in their first home match of the season.
Up until the striker's second half arrival it had been a close contest, with the home team perhaps unlucky not to be leading.
Montrose keeper Mark Peat managed to foil a Craig Frizzell effort on eleven minutes following his electric burst of pace to burn off two visiting defenders.
And nice play by Davie Ross and Frizzell created a headed chance for assistant boss Kenny Gilbert but again Peat came to Montrose's rescue.
Gradually the Angus side came more into it, and Baird came on to great effect with a quick fire double.
His first goal was a towering header, despite being several inches smaller than the Elgin central defenders.
And a simple side footed finish following good play by former City skillseeker Garry Wood completed a great afternoon for the substitute.
