Elgin started in determined fashion as they wanted to erase last weeks 6 goal trouncing from the minds.

However things didn't start well, the referee awarded a dubious penalty for East Stirling after 10 mins which Colin Cramb converted.  'Shire were causing City a lot of problems with their movement and deservedly scored on 22 mins through a fine individual goal from Richardson.  East Stirling then scored another goal the following minute through a ricochet off an unfortunate Paul Kaczan.  City regrouped and scored through Guy Kerr 5 mins before half-time to give City hope.

City started brightly at the start of the second half but it was East Stirling that scored next - Andy Rodgers scored a breakaway goal as City were throwing men forward.  Kenny Wright pulled another one back for City forcing the ball just over the line from close range after a goalmouth scramble.  Despite 'Shire players and fans complaints the ball was definitely over the line.  City then pushed Kaczan upfront and were living dangerously as 'Shire had a number of breakaway opportunities.

With 10 mins to go Jason Crooks fired in a super 25 yard effort on the 'Shire goal but it cracked off the bar and bounced clear, this summed up Elgin's match.  Then on a swift counter attack Donaldson finished the scoring for 'Shire with less than five minutes to go.

Although Elgin shipped another 5 goals in the match, their overall performance wasn't as bad as the scoreline suggests.  The first 25 minutes from City's point of view was very poor but they didn't give up and if Crooks' shot had gone in, they could've even escaped with a point.  Kerr, Crooks and Wright would've got pass marks for City today and despite losing 5 goals Ally Ridgers didn't have a chance with any of them, in fact he didn't have too much more to do.  Although City didn't give up the defeat has left them 3 points adrift at the bottom of the table with a worrying goal difference of -14.
