Assistant manager Kenny Gilbert and boss Robbie Williamson are keen to maintain their search for new faces to augment City’s player pool ahead of Monday’s closure of the transfer window.
Guy Kerr and Andy McNulty are two new faces to have appeared recently for City, and the management team will continue their search for signings in the next few days.
Kenny said, "We signed two guys, a goalkeeper (McNulty) and centre half (Kerr) on loan from Inverness. These are both six-month loan deals, with a view to extending to season-long loans. We won't replace the players we've already got without the necessary quality, but at the same time Robbie and I realise we have shoestring squad. We would still like to add another midfielder and striker.
Just three weeks ago, Kenny told the matchday programme that he and Robbie were desperate to add to the player pool, which was threadbare with just 13 signed players.
He said, "We're looking to get 18 in the squad to work with, but meanwhile youngsters will definitely get their chance.
"With suspensions and injuries, we have no option to blood these young guys, maybe sooner than we'd like to.
"Any youngsters doing well will get the chance, but I wouldn't put pressure on anybody by naming any names," said Robbie's right-hand man.
"At the moment, we have a skeleton squad. We're basically looking to sign anybody we can get. Last season, we had four or five on loan from Ross County and Inverness, and as far as permanent or loan deals are concerned, it's either/or to be honest.
"Beggars can't be choosers and we're beggars at the moment."
Meanwhile, Kenny was delighted to pick up maximum points for the first time this season in the match against Forfar at Station Park.
He said, "The boys got what they deserved – they put a lot of effort into it. To be honest, it could have been more for us.
"In the first 15 mins we struggled a wee bit, but we went on to dominate throughout after that. We were in total control in the first half and created four or five chances; we could have been comfy at half time, but at 0-0 it was still anybody's game.
"Robbie and I said to the lads at half time to keep it going, and they took their performance into the second half.
Following his strike in the 1-1 draw against Dumbarton in the previous game at Borough Briggs, Steve Mackay struck his second goal in consecutive games at Station Park to hand City victory. The strike partnership of Darren Shallicker and Jason Crooks has yet to yield any goals, but Kenny believes the contribution of the pair in creating chances is enough to justify their inclusion.
"Sure, it would be good for Crooks to get a goal," said Kenny. "But his work in and around Shally is tremendous, and is as good as a goal."
