As the snow came down hard on Borough Briggs, Elgin City did brilliantly well to come back from 2-0 down against Annan, who played the majority of the second half with 10 men, but an unfortunate own goal in the last few minutes saw the away team secure victory.

The first half was mainly dominated by Annan, and Ian Harty showed his intentions after 10 minutes with a shot that went over the bar. Just 2 minutes later, and Sean O'Connor was given time to control the ball in the box and slot past Peter Donnelly. It was clear that Annan were looking for another goal straight away, and David Cox had two chances to score but both his chances went wide. It took Elgin a while to settle and Frizzel almost bagged a spectacular goal, having the space to pull off an acrobatic overhead kick but it was saved by keeper Craig Summersgill. Mark Nicolson then came closest for City with a header that went just inches past the far post, after a good ball in the box from Ross O'Donoghue. However, while Elgin were starting to create chances Annan got their second goal after 39 minutes, and defender Kevin Neilson found himself in the right place at the right time to rifle the ball home after the Elgin defence had failed to clear.

The turning point came early on in the second half, and a rash last man challenge from Andy Aitken on David Gormley saw referee Gary Hilland show a straight red card and there was little complaints from Aitken as he marched down the tunnel. Craig Gunn nearly scored straight from the free kick as Summersgill saw very little of the shot, but he was able to somehow clear after spilling the shot. Elgin had a great penalty shout in the 53rd minute when Brian Cameron was brought down in the area, but the referee waved play on despite numerous protests. This didn't stop Cameron however, and in the 65th minute he sent in a wonderful ball to the far post that David Gormley did well to get on the end of, and despite Summersgill's best efforts to keep it out it was just too strong a header, and Elgin had found their way back into the game.

Inspired by the goal, City fought for the equaliser and it took them a mere 4 minutes to find it. A flick on from David Gormley on the left hand side was well read by Craig Gunn, and he took it round his marker before firing the ball past the despairing Summersgill. Elgin were looking dominant and it could, and probably should, have been 3-2 in 76 minutes but Mark Nicolson's effort was somehow kept out by the goalkeeper. Despite the pressure however, Annan found themselves with a winner after 84 minutes. A cross into the box looked relatively harmless but it took an awkward bounce on the snowy surface and Allan Dempsie could do little as it came off him and went in. It was harsh on Elgin, who had done so well to get back into the game, and Annan can feel the luck went their way with the 3 points.
