CITY bounced back from a run of five defeats to kick start their Irn-Bru Third Division play-off hopes with a slim 1-0 victory against Peterhead at Balmoor Stadium.
A first win on the road since mid-November, thanks to an early first half strike, provided Elgin with a timely boost ahead of next Saturday's Borough Briggs clash against Rangers, who slumped to a surprise home defeat by Annan Athletic.
Elgin were boosted by the return from injury of skipper David Niven, out since early February, and defensive colleague Jamie Duff for the trip to Buchan.
Paul Millar was also handed just his second start of the season and the big striker was on hand to set up City's early opener.
Millar played in Malin's long goal kick in nine minutes and Daniel MOORE drilled home his ninth goal to give the Black and Whites a welcome lift.
City had their chances after the break to extend their lead, but notching all three points against play-off rivals to end a recent dismal run of results will restore confidence in the side.
Peterhead – G Smith, Gilfillan, R Smith, Sharp, Noble, Redman, Cowie, Cox, Bavidge (McGlinchey 64), McAllister, Rodgers (McCann 73). Subs not used – Jarvie, Alexander, Tully.
Elgin City – Malin, Niven (Morrison 81), McMullan, Crighton, Duff, Cameron, Gunn, Millar, Leslie, Nicolson, Moore. Subs not used – Black, Harkins, McHardy, Beveridge.

CITY'S season of discontent continued as they slumped to a 5-3 Irn-Bru Third Division by Queen's Park at Borough Briggs.
The Black and Whites needed to pick up the points to revive their play-off hopes, but it was the Spiders who held the upper hand from the off.
Elgin showed just one change from the side which went down at home to Stirling Albion, with Ross O'Donoghue replacing injured defender Jamie Duff.
But hopes City could get their faltering season back on track were sunk in a clinical first half display by the visitors as they romped to a three goal interval lead.
Sean BURNS, Lawrence SHANKLAND and Blair SPITTAL notched the counters which left City with a huge uphill task to get something out of the game.
And things went from bad to worse as Mike KEENAN and BURNS added to the visitors tally before sub Paul MILLAR, Craig GUNN and Brian CAMERON put a more respectable slant on the score.
Elgin City – Malin, Beveridge, McMullan, Crighton, Morrison (Harkins 58), Cameron, Gunn, O'Donoghue (Millar 60), Leslie (McLean 70), Nicolson, Moore. Subs not used – Black, McHardy.
Queen's Park – Parry, Little, Gallacher (Bradley 83), Brough, Robertson, Spittal (Davison 81), Anderson, McParland, Burns, Shankland (McVey 89), Keenan. Subs not used – Lochead, Gibson.

CITY'S poor run of Irn-Bru Third Division results continued as Stirling Albion held on for a 2-1 win at Borough Briggs.
The defeat left the Black and Whites with just one victory in their last 12 games and early season hopes of a second successive play-off spot are now up in the air.
There was a more familiar look about City after a spell without unavailable regulars, with Jamie Duff, Daniel Moore and Graeme Beveridge back in the starting line-up.
But it was the fast-improving Binos, the only senior side in British football without an away win this season, who held the upper hand at the interval thanks to a left foot double from Kieran McANESPIE.
The much travelled midfielder netted in seven and 37 minutes, with Stuart LESLIE netting his 16th goal of the season in 23 minutes to briefly square matters for City.
City huffed and puffed after the break in an effort to get themselves back into the game, but the visitors held on to their advantage for their first win on the road in the league.
Elgin City – Malin, Morrison (O'Donoghue 69), McMullan (Millar 69), Crighton, Duff, Cameron, Gunn, Beveridge, Leslie, Nicolson (Harkins 83), Moore. Subs not used – Black, McHardy.
Stirling Albion – Filler, Allison (Thom 54), Bishop, Forsyth, McClune, McCunnie, McAnespie, Ferry, Davidson (Ashe 73), Johnston (Flood 82), White. Subs not used – Cleland, Cunningham.

Ross Jack's side was missing nine squad players tonight but they came out the blocks first and stamped their mark on the game. Craig Gunn put City one nil up when he scored his 14th goal of the season in only the 3rd minute.
Elgin kept their lead until around the hour mark when Rangers' Darren Lavery's volley from the right side of the box found its way into the top of the net. Things didn't get any better for the Moray men when they had Ceiran McLean stretchered off in the 71st minute to add to Jack's lengthening injury list.
The home side had increased the pressure on City since the start of the 2nd period and it was a matter of time before their 2nd goal came. It was Scott Dalziel who chested the ball down and volleyed the ball past City stopper Joe Malin in the 74th minute.
Berwick Rangers: McCallum, Jacobs, Brydon, Townsley, Hoskins (Carse 80), McLaren, Notman, Lee Currie, Gielty, Dalziel, Lavery (Janczyk 90). Subs Not Used: McCaldon, McLean, O'Brien.
Goals: Lavery 59, Dalziel 74.
Elgin City : Malin, McLean (Millar 71), Crighton, McDonald (Beveridge 62), McMullan, Harkins (McHardy 79), Nicolson, Cameron, Morrison, Gunn, Leslie. Subs Not Used: Black.
Goals: Gunn 3.
