City given dose of the Blues
Written by Bill McKenzie

CITY were on the wrong end of a 6-2 rout at Borough Briggs as Rangers stretched their lead at the top of the Irn-Bru Third Division table.

The Black and Whites gave a spirited account of themselves in the first half, but two early goals after the break on a cold, blustery day knocked the stuffing out of Ross Jack's side.

The return from suspension of skipper David Niven offset the loss of Jamie Duff through injury, with on loan Ross County keeper Joe Malin on the bench.

Strikers Kevin Kyle and Dean Shiels were missing for the visitors, but the Light Blue fans in the packed ground were celebrating after just four minutes.

Andy LITTLE raced on to a through ball, skipped round Gibson and slotted home the opener to set the pace for a cracking first 45.

City's response was swift and sweet, with Daniel MOORE smashing a fierce 20-yard left foot shot past Alexander for the equaliser in 17 minutes.

But Rangers regained the lead seven minutes later as Templeton slipped over a simple pass for Andy LITTLE to slot home from three yards.

The action was fast and furious and City grabbed a second leveller in 30 minutes. Hegarty was booked for hauling down Niven on the edge of the box and Mark NICOLSON swept a delightful free kick high past Alexander.

Cameron passed up a great chance to fire City ahead, the midfielder driving a left foot shot straight at the keeper from 12 yards in 35 minutes.

Rangers skipper Lee McCULLOCH, restored to an attacking role, made City pay for slack marking in 40 minutes as he gathered a Little cross from the right to slam home from 10 yards to give the Glasgow side a deserved 3-2 interval lead.

Any hopes of another tit-for-tat second half were downed in 60 minutes as McCULLOCH fired a low shot wide of Gibson and four minutes later Lewis MACLEOD crashed an 18-yarder home to stretch Rangers' lead to 5-2.

Kyle HUTTON put the icing on the cake for the Ibrox side as he smashed home number six in 83 minutes for his first goal for the Light Blues.

City had the chance to reduce the defecit two minutes later after Hutton pulled down Leslie in the box, but Alexander dived to his left to push away Moore's spot kick.

Elgin City and Grampian Police Media Release

Friday, 21 December 2012 17:47

Elgin City and Grampian Police today issued a warning regarding roads congestion in the lead up to the rearranged fixture at Borough Briggs on Saturday 22 December 2012.

With this game being played on the final Saturday before Christmas, Elgin City Director Martyn Hunter stated, " Elgin town centre and the roads are sure to be far busier than normal and we would ask both sets of fans to arrive early at the game to allow entry by such a large crowd."

Match Commander, Superintendent Mark Cooper said, " Once again, we have been able to agree with the Management of Moray Leisure Centre which is next to the stadium and we are grateful for their support. There is limited car parking on Lossie Green and for fans arriving by car but we would ask that if local fans could walk that would assist potential congestion. Management from Elgin Academy on Morriston Road have also agreed to make their car park available for about cars to park there and fans can then walk down the cycle track towards the ground".

"I hope that this is a great event for Elgin City, their fans and also away support who will arrive in numbers. Again, the fans are encouraged to enjoy the occasion, but to behave responsibly for the enjoyment of all and to ensure that their Christmas gets off to the best possible start."

Fans are reminded that the Drinking of Alcohol in Public Spaces will be enforced on the day. Also fans will not be allowed to take umbrellas and large flags into the ground.

City pegged back at Hampden
Written by Bill McKenzie

CITY had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Queen's Park to stay closest rivals to Irn-Bru Third Division leaders Rangers.

The Black and Whites, chasing revenge for the 4-0 early-season home defeat by the Spiders, looked up for the task as they stormed ahead six minutes into the Hampden Park clash.

But the home side grabbed the equaliser just before the interval as City stretched their unbeaten league run to 11 games ahead of Saturday's home game against Rangers.

Elgin showed just the one change from the side which started last week's home win over Clyde, with striker Craig Gunn restored in place of suspended skipper David Niven.

And City rocked promotion candidates Queen's with a quick-fire opener as Stuart LESLIE fired home a Paul Harkins pass in six minutes.

Leslie's 14th goal of the season looked good enough to give City a half-time lead, but Andy ROBERTSON pounced four minutes from the break to square matters.

Queen's Park – Parry, Little, Gallacher, Bradley (Watt 72), Robertson, McGinn, Keenan, Anderson (Smith 90), McParland, Connolly, Quin (Longworth 78). Subs not used – Lochead, Capuano.

Elgin City – Gibson, Nicolson, Crighton, Duff, Harkins (Beveridge 75),Cameron, Gunn, O'Donoghue, Leslie, Wyness (Millar 82),Moore. Subs not used – Black, McMullan, McHardy, Millar.
