Darren Shallicker scored consolation goal today but it was little comfort for the City support who saw their side well beaten.
A Paul Kaczan own goal got Elgin off to a bad start in just ten minutes. The centre back tried to clear his lines following a scramble after Ally Ridgers dropped a corner and ended up knocking it into his own net.
Forfar were well on top and Stephen Tulloch hit the crossbar from partially cleared corner. However on 26 minutes he was given space to deliver a powerful header off Martin Fotheringham's corner and found the net to make it 2-0.
City lost Kenny Wright to an ankle injury, with Brian Cameron coming on as his replacement to good effect. The youngster almost got his first senior goal in the second half but was denied by visiting keeper John Gibson. Fellow sub Steve MacKay, who replaced Zander Jack at the break, also went close but Forfar went on to add two more goals through Ross Campbell and Johnny Russell before Darren Shallicker got one back in injury time.
