Irn-Bru Scottish 3rd Division result

Elgin City 2

Annan Athletic 0

Cameron 5
Crooks 11

After tasting defeat in their previous game against Stranraer, Elgin bounced back in style with a brilliant performance to keep Annan at bay.

Elgin have an impressive record when it comes to scoring early goals, and it took only 5 minutes for them to open the scoring, Jason Crook's cross headed home at the near post by Brian Cameron – the youngster's 2nd league goal of the season and he probably won't get any easier.

It was Elgin's second foray up the park that saw them double the advantage, with Craig Gunn sneaking in behind Aaron Muirhead after he mistimed his header. With plenty of time, Gunn held the ball up before finding Jason Crooks in the box, and Crooksy was never going to miss from point blank range. City again found themselves dominating the game, and they could have been 3 or 4 up after only half an hour, with Craig Gunn and Jason Crooks both testing John Jamieson in the Annan goal.

Elgin's dominance meant that Annan never really had a look-in, and it was Elgin that were creating all of the chances, and the ball could, and probably should, have found the back of the net after 49 minutes, but there were no takers for Ross O'Donoghue's driven cross as it flashed across goal.  A relatively quiet second half saw no clear-cut chances, but Jamie Duff was rather unlucky not to open his Elgin goalscoring account as Annan keeper furiously backpedalled to keep Duffers' header out.

Annan created their best chance of the game in the 84th minute, as substitute Javier Amaya broke free of the City defence but he could only find the side netting with his shot. Another substitute, Paul Millar, was then guilty of wasting a good chance to score as he found himself one on one with the goalkeeper, but he hit straight at the feet of Jamieson. It was a very comfortable win for Elgin in a match with little incident, and Ross Jack will be delighted with the response of his team after losing the week previous.
