As the adverse weather affected Scotland's fixture card, Elgin will feel quite pleased to have escaped from Hampden with a point in a game that the hosts dominated, and will likely feel aggrieved at dropping 2 points.
Queens Park took the game to elgin early on in the first half, and they should have taken the lead after 10 minutes when Tony Quinn got on the end of Paul McGinn's cross, but Quinn wasted his chance from close range. City didn't venture forward much at all in the first half, but David Niven had a shot well saved on 15 minutes after good work down the right from Brian Cameron.
Had it not been for Peter Donnelly making several fine saves in the first half, Elgin could have found themselves well behind at the interval but Donnelly, who is settling well at the club, denied David Anderson on two occasions and kept out Ian Watt's header with a sprawling save. Captain Paul Kaczan, back in the side after missing the previous game against Albion Rovers, then came close in the 44th minute, his header not far over the bar from Brian Cameron's cross.
After having struggled in the first half, Elgin looked like a different team at the start of the second half, and Jason Crooks had a couple of opportunites to break the deadlock. However, Queens were still looking the more threatening of the two sides and a brilliant block from Jamie Duff was all that kept out Martin McBride, who looked odds on to score in the 62nd minute. Only 30 seconds later and it was McBride again that had a brilliant chance, but his header from point blank range didn't even test the keeper.
It was the home side that took the lead on the 66th minute, with Tony Quinn managing to power the ball past Peter Donnelly who had made a brilliant save with his feet to keep out Quinn. However, it was the Queens Park midfielder who was first to the rebound and he was able to find the back of the net.
Elgin seemed fired up after their opponents had scored, and it took them only 5 minutes to bring the game back level, with Craig Frizzel breaking free down the right hand side of the pitch and delivering an inch perfect cross for Jason Crooks, who couldn't miss from 6 yards out with his header. City could have sneaked an unlikely 3 points in the 83rd minute with a near-identical move, but Neil Macdonald's header was just wide of the mark.
Queens Park had the final chance of the game in the 88th minute and they probably should have scored but Peter Donnelly was again in the right place to deny Craig Smith's volleyed effort.
