Irn-Bru Scottish 3rd Division result

East Stirling 2

Elgin City 1

Maguire 27
Dunn 85
  Crooks 39

With the season drawing to a close Elgin City played well against East Stirling and looked to be going home with a point, until a late thunderbolt from David Dunn saw the Shire steal the win.

With some goalkeeping heroics last week from the opposition the week before, Elgin were looking to try and find the back of the net as soon as possible and some good play from Mark Nicolson saw him release Craig Gunn, with the striker's shot well saved by Michael Andrews after 7 minutes. Shortly after, a Barry Wilson cross found Jason Crooks, but he was unable to find the target.

East Stirling did not create much in the opening exchanges but found themselves in front after 27 minutes with Stephen Maguire picking up a wayward clearance and slotting the ball past Peter Donnelly. Elgin did not let their heads drop, though and after 39 minutes they were level with a brilliant attacking move setting up the equaliser. Brian Cameron fed the ball through to Craig Gunn after some hard work down on the right, and Gunn then played in Jason Crooks who finished brilliantly.

It could have been 2 goals in 2 minutes for City, and Barry Wilson showed great vision with his long range effort that looked like it could have crept in. Jason Crooks then saw himself in front of goal and only a good save denied Crooks from scoring his second of the game. After the break, east Stirling came close and substitute Dean Richardson was unfortunate to see his shot from the edge of the box sail wide.

David Niven came very close for Elgin after 72 minutes and he showed great skill to control a long ball, hitting a shot that went just over the bar. However, the second half was shaping up to be the home side's half, and they got their winner in spectacular fashion after 84 minutes. David Dunn picked the ball up from at least 30 yards out and hit an unstoppable shot that Peter Donnelly could do little about – with the ball finding the top corner.
